Painting in the landscape, observing colour

Lisnabreeny/ Cregagh glen / clonduff community centre , Belfast . Monday 17th August 10 am to 4 pm. ( limited to 10 places)

Mixing and matching the colour we see when working outdoors can be difficult. Colour can be very subtle and difficult to describe. However, if we look carefully and apply the correct methods, it is possible to produce more accurate and satisfying results

The views from Lisnabreeny/ Cregagh glen over Belfast provide a combination of nature’s greens with industrial greys and earth tones. These colours also become less saturated with distance.

The aim of this workshop is to encourage you to concentrate purely on colour by ‘ breaking down’ the landscape into simple patches and making small careful studies

  • You will learn how to observe and match colours you see in the landscape.
  • Use the colour wheel as a guide
  • Use viewfinders and ‘swatches’
  • Understand value, temperature and saturation and colour context

We will conclude the session at the nearby Clonduff community centre where we will review the work produced outdoors and you will be shown ways in which you can refine your skills.
