Many people who enjoy making art often have not had experience of it history. How and why did certain styles develop? How has the use of materials changed through history? Why did artists choose certain subjects?
Sometimes we are confused and sometimes unsure about art ( especially modern art). However a basic knowledge of history opens up new understanding , appreciation and enjoyment. It also gives us confidence to discuss the things we see galleries and museums.
